<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of a backlight 40. <P>SOLUTION: A portable telephone 10 includes a display 30, the brightness of which is adjusted by a backlight 40; a 3-axis acceleration sensor 42; and an illuminance sensor 44 which detects the ambient illuminance. In the portable telephone 10, a determination is made as to whether it is in downward state based on the 3-axis acceleration data, and as to whether a desk, or the like, exists near the screen of the display 30 based on the output from the illuminance sensor 44. When the portable telephone 10 is placed on a desk upside down, a determination is made that the portable telephone 10 is in a downward state, and since a determination is also made that an object exists near the screen of the display 30, power supply of the backlight 40 is turned off. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
