<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blow rate calculation method for a boiler capable of accurately understanding the blow rate of the boiler to be a prescribed value without using any flow meter or any electric conductivity sensor, and to provide a control method for the boiler. <P>SOLUTION: The blow rate calculation method for the boiler for calculating the blow rate of the boiler on the basis of the quality of boiler water or supplied water in a compact through-flow boiler using soft water as supplement water includes steps of: (a) setting a compact through-flow boiler to low-combustion or high-combustion fixed opening before boiler water is sampled; (b) sampling boiler water through a downcomer line from a steam separator; (c) sampling supplied water; and (d) calculating the blow rate of the boiler on the basis of the chloride ion density or the silica density of the sampled boiler water or supplied water.
