<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition that satisfies at least one of characteristics such as a high maximum temperature of a nematic phase, a low minimum temperature of a nematic phase, a low viscosity, an appropriate optical anisotropy, a large dielectric anisotropy, a large specific resistance, a high stability to ultraviolet light and heat, or that is suitably balanced between at least two of the characteristics, and to provide an AM device that has a short response time, a large voltage holding ratio, a large contrast ratio, a long service life or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition includes a specified compound having a large dielectric anisotropy as a first component and a specified bicyclic compound having a low viscosity as a second component, and may contain a specified compound having a high maximum temperature or a large dielectric anisotropy as a third component, and a specified compound having a high maximum temperature or a low viscosity as a fourth component, and has a nematic phase; and a liquid crystal display device includes the composition. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
