<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for manufacturing an optical fiber preform, which can avoid damage to the manufacturing facility and can inexpensively manufacture an optical fiber preform. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus 1 for manufacturing an optical fiber preform fuses glass microparticles 3 on the outer periphery of a glass rod 2 to manufacture the optical fiber preform, and has an airtight vessel 10, a plasma burner 11, a glass microparticle introduction section 12, a composition-correcting gas introduction section 13 and a gas exhaust section 14. The airtight vessel 10 surrounds a part to be heated of the glass rod 2 to be heated by the plasma burner 11. The plasma burner 11 heats the glass microparticles 3 by the plasma flame. The glass microparticle introduction section 12 introduces the glass microparticles 3 toward the part to be heated of the glass rod 2 in the airtight vessel 10. The composition-correcting gas introduction section 13 introduces a composition-correcting gas in the airtight vessel 10 to correct the composition of the glass microparticles 3 fused on the part to be heated of the glass rod 2 in the airtight vessel 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
