<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high integrity linear actuator and a method of operating the same. <P>SOLUTION: A linear actuator 1 comprises a first casing section 2 and a second casing section 3 which are slidable relatively to one another. Inside the casing sections 2 and 3, there are provided a first motor 6 and a second motor 16 each of which can drive a screw-threaded rod 4.
