PURPOSE: A navigation system and methods using sensor fusion with IONS and GPS are provided to reduce the volume and weight of the position recognition sensor and the cost of mobile robot. CONSTITUTION: A navigation system comprises GPS module(10), IONS module(20), and control unit(30). The GPS module measures the absolute coordinates of the platform according to the information received from a satellite. The IONS module measures relative coordinate, speed, and progress direction of the platform including the inertia sensor and optical sensor. The control unit decides the position, speed, progress direction of the platform judged from fusing 'the absolute coordinates of the platform measured using the GPS module' and 'the relative coordinates, speed, and progress direction of the platform measured using the IONS module'.
