METHODS AND REAGENTS FOR TREATMENT AND DIAGNOSIS OF AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method using whether or not a genome of a subject encodes a haplotype of a Complement H Factor (CFH) gene related to a decrease of propensity to develop AMD, as an index of the subject's propensity to develop age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

SOLUTION: The method includes a process for determining whether or not an array encoding an isoleucine at CHF protein position 62 exists in polymorphic site rs800292 of the genome of the subject, wherein an existence of the haplotype indicates that the subject has the decreased propensity to develop AMD.
