PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toner for a liquid developer, the toner having a small particle diameter and excellent dispersion stability in an insulating liquid.

SOLUTION: A production method of a toner is provided, including the steps of: preparing an emulsion by dispersing a dispersoid in an aqueous dispersion medium, the dispersoid including a colorant, an organic solvent, and a resin material that has an acidic group forming a salt structure together with a basic substance and showing an acid number of 5.0 to 20 mgKOH/g in a state of an acidic substance that does not form a salt with the basic substance; obtaining coalesced particles by coalescing the dispersoid included in the emulsion; obtaining colored resin particles by removing the organic solvent included in the coalesced particles; cleaning the colored resin particles with an aqueous liquid; obtaining an acidic dispersion liquid having a pH adjusted to 3.0 to 6.0 by dispersing the cleaned colored resin particles in an aqueous liquid and subjecting the liquid to an acid treatment; cleaning the colored resin particles subjected to the acid treatment with an aqueous liquid; and drying the cleaned colored resin particles.
