<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal device for maintaining reliable shaft sealing with a seal lip against a high-pressure fluid to be sealed, alleviating the equivalent Mises stress to be generated in the seal lip, and extending the seal lip durable period. <P>SOLUTION: A backup ring (2) has a tapered section (23) extending continuously from the fixation section (21) thereof and a forward end section (24). A rounded surface (E) having a radius of curvature (R-1) is formed at least in the boundary (26) between the surface (D) of the tapered section (23) and the surface (F) of the forward end section (24). A part of the surface (D) of the tapered section (23) in contact with the rounded surface (E) as the boundary (26) is a convex curved surface having a greater radius of curvature than (R-1) as that of the boundary (26). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
