This method of establishing a final score of similarity between a digital image acquired and a pre-recorded digital image, comprises: a) the construction (42) on the basis of the image acquired of H maps Ji, of gradients calculated according to a respective set i of directions, b) for each map of gradients Ji, the calculation (52) of an intermediate score Si, of similarity between this map of gradients Ji, and a corresponding reference map Jiref, each intermediate score Si of similarity being a real number representing the degree of similitude between the compared maps, the reference map Jiref being a map of gradients calculated according to the same set i of directions as the map of gradients Ji, on the basis of the pre-recorded image, and c) the establishment (54) of a final score Sf of similarity between the image acquired and the pre-recorded image as a function of the H intermediate scores Si of similarity.
