According to one embodiment, there is provided a nonaqueous electrolyte battery including a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The negative electrode includes a first negative electrode active material containing a monoclinic &bgr;-type titanium composite oxide and a second negative electrode active material. The second negative electrode active material causes insertion and release of lithium ion in a potential range from 0.8 V to 1.5 V (vs. Li/Li+). |
