<p>In order to provide a piston ring with high thermal conductivity, which can be used in the high thermal load environment of an engine, and which has excellent scuff resistance and abrasion resistance, and, moreover, in order to provide a piston ring that contributes to improvements in fuel consumption due to low friction, by optimizing ion plating film deposition conditions, the outer periphery of this piston ring is coated with a TiN film at a thickness of 10 to 60 µm such that the (111) plane structural coefficient is 1.2 to 1.65 according to X-ray diffraction measurement of the surface covered by the film, and the (111) plane structural coefficient > the (220) plane structural coefficient > the (200) plane structural coefficient. Furthermore, in order to obtain excellent low friction sliding characteristics without compromising the excellent thermal conductivity of TiN, the TiN coating is further coated with an amorphous hard carbon film.</p> |
