<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a displacement amount detector capable of improving output linearity. <P>SOLUTION: A displacement amount of a detection object 1 relative to a detection coil 2 is detected on the basis of a change in electrical characteristics of the detection coil 2 that can be displaced in a predetermined displacement direction (a left-right direction in FIG. (1)) relative to the detection object 1 made of metal. A movable range of the detection coil 2 relative to the detection object 1 includes a range overlapped with the detection object 1 and a range non-overlapped therewith, when viewed from a predetermined facing direction (a direction orthogonal to an A1 direction in the FIG. (1)) orthogonal to the displacement direction. In the detection object 1A, a coil-side edge 11 that may be overlapped with the detection coil 2, when viewed from the facing direction in the process of displacement relative to the detection coil 2, is inclined to the displacement direction.
