The method involves saving data from controls of the functional component in a storage device of the controller and calculating a hash value from a portion of the data to a time point. Another hash value is calculated from the portion of the data in the data-storage device. The former hash value is compared with the latter hash value. Both the hash values are calculated such that they differ only when the position of the data is changed after the initial operation of the vehicle. An independent claim is included for a system for identifying data changes in controller for controlling functional component of vehicle.
