PURPOSE: A backlight device with a localized dimming function is provided to control brightness of a desired region by forming grooves in a light guide plate, dividing partitions and arranging light sources in each partition. CONSTITUTION: Light sources(270) are installed at the side of a light guide plate(210). A reflective sheet(240) is installed at the lower side of the light guide plate. A diffuse sheet(250) is installed at the upper side of the light guide plate. A prism sheet(260) is installed at the upper side of the diffuse sheet. Grooves(230) are prepared in one side of the light guide plate. The grooves divide the light guide plate into partitions. The light sources are corresponded to the partitions.
