Provided is an object-detecting device and an information-acquiring device that can be kept compact even when a light-receiving optical system is taller than a projection optical system. The information-acquiring device (1) comprises a light-emitting device (10), a light-receiving device (20), and a base plate (300) for holding the light-emitting device and the light-receiving device so that the light-emitting device and the light-receiving device are in a linear arrangement set apart by a predetermined distance. The light-receiving device is provided with a light-receiving optical system (200) arranged so that a plurality of optical elements including an image-capturing lens (220) are disposed so as to be in a linear arrangement in the optical axis direction of the image-capturing lens, and a lens holder (260) for holding the light-receiving optical system. The base plate holds the lens holder in a position on the periphery of the optical axis of the image-capturing lens of the lens holder, and thereby holds the light-receiving device. It is thereby possible for the information-acquiring device to have a lower profile.
