This power supply system comprises a plurality of strings in which a storage cell and a power conversion device are connected in series, and comprises a control unit for controlling the power conversion devices of the strings. The strings are connected to each other such that the storage cells of the strings are connected in parallel. On the basis of an externally issued charge-discharge request, the control unit determines the distribution of power to be allocated to each of the plurality of strings so that the charge-discharge efficiency of the system as a whole is at maximum or near maximum, by taking into account the charge-discharge efficiency of the strings computed by adding at least the charge-discharge conversion efficiency of the power conversion devices to the charge-discharge efficiency of the storage cells.
