ORAL COMPOSITION FOR PREVENTING OR TREATING CARIES AND PERIODONTAL DISEASE

PURPOSE: An oral composition containing Lonicera japonica thunberg extract is provided to ensure antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects and to prevent and treat oral diseases and gingival diseases. CONSTITUTION: An oral composition for preventing and treating periodontal diseases contains 0.1-40 wt% of Lonicera japonica Thunberg extract as an active ingredient. The extract is a 70% ethanol extract, a hexane fraction, a dichloromethane(CH2Cl2) fraction, an ethyl acetate(EtOAc) fraction, a butanol fraction(BuOH) fraction, or a water(H_2O) fraction. The extract has an antibacterial effect against Fusobacterium nucleatum(ATCC 25586), Porphyromonas gingivalis(ATCC 33277), Treponema denticola(ATCC 35405), Tannerella forsythia(ATCC 43037), Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans(ATCC 43718), or Prevotella intermedia(ATCC 25611).
