<p>A transfer member assembly 2 comprises a transfer member 4 for the transfer of a signal, power or fluid such as an optical fibre, an electrical conductor or a gas or hydraulic line. The transfer member assembly 2 comprises a shroud 6 formed around the transfer member 4 and a composite material 8 comprising a matrix formed around the shroud 6. The composite material 8 comprises longitudinal fibres in a resin matrix. The resin matrix penetrates at least part-way into the shroud 6. The penetration of the matrix into the shroud 6 is controlled during manufacture of the transfer member assembly 2, for example by controlling shroud permeability or by controlling the resin viscosity or pressure utilised in a pultrusion process utilised to form the composite.</p> |
