PURPOSE: A method of reducing a gear shift shock is provided to apply provisionally hydraulic press in forward clutch so as to make the press work as a drag torque at output shaft of transmission, thereby reducing a shift shock. CONSTITUTION: A multistage transmission recognizes the stopper information of a vehicle and senses the shifting of the shift lever. The multistage transmission provisionally applies hydraulic press in forward clutch like a D(drive) or N(neutral) at the moment it senses a shifting to R(rear) as to use the forward output torque as a drag torque to backward output torque, thereby resolving the gear backlash smoothly.
