摘要 383,136. Milling-cutters. KEARNEY & TRECKER CORPORATION, West Allis, Wisconsin, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Curtis, F. W. ; c/o Kearney & Trecker Corporation, West Allis, Wisconsin, U.S.A.) Feb. 26, 1932, No. 5767. Convention date, May 21, 1931. [Class 83 (iii).] A milling cutter has an annular body with peripheral slots extending substantially parallel to the axis and adjustable blades in the slots, the body being formed to support the blades nearly to the end at the rear side thereof and being cut away at the front side to provide clearance for chips. Each blade consists of a cutting tip rigidly bonded to a base or shank. The cutter comprises an annular body 2 having a centring recess 2a and bolt-holes 2b for attachment to a machine spindle or a central bore 2c for receiving an arbor, and provided with approximately axial recesses 4 adapted to receive blades 1 and securing wedges 5 engaged by screws 6. The axial positions of the blades are determined by pins 10 engaging differently spaced sets of recesses 8, 9, Fig. 8, in the blades and body to allow for adjustment after grinding. The body 2 is relieved annularly at 17, Fig. 1, to provide projecting portions 18, Fig. 2, which support the rear surfaces of the blades at 20 but are clear of the cutting faces at 19 to allow room for chips. The blades consist of body portions 3, Fig. 8, uniting as by brazing, welding, &c. to cutting tips 11 formed of a brittle material such as tungsten or tantalum carbide. The tips 11 are preferably undercut on the two sides by which they are attached.
