A sliding door mechanism comprises a carriage 2 arranged to be received within an open channel 4 at the top of a sliding door, a wheel 8 pivotally mounted to the carriage such that when the carriage 2 is received in a channel 4 the wheel axis extends through the plane of the door and a biasing mechanism is arranged to be coupled to a sliding door. The carriage 2 is arranged to tilt within the channel 4 such that the wheel 8 can extend out of the channel to engage a door guide channel 12 running across the top of the door and the biasing mechanism is arranged to bias the position of the carriage 2 towards a position in which the wheel 8 is maximally extended from the channel. The biasing mechanism is preferably a magnet 20 secured to the door stile 22, the carriage 2 is preferably made of metal and thus attracted to the magnet 20. This draws the carriage 2 upwards. Alternatively, a spring is used to bias the carriage. |
