<p>The instrument 10 comprises an instrument shaft 3 having a longitudinal axis, and an electrode assembly at one end of the shaft. The electrode assembly comprises first 20, second 33 and third electrodes 34 which are electrically insulated one from another. The instrument further comprises first 19 and second connections 15 by which RF energy can be supplied to the instrument. The first electrode 20 is movable longitudinally between an advanced position in which it extends from the instrument shaft and a retracted position. The arrangement is such that when the first electrode 20 is in its advanced position, the first and second connections are in electrical communication with the first 20 and second electrodes 33 allowing electrosurgical cutting. When the first electrode 20 is in its retracted position, the first and second connections are in electrical communication with the second 33 and third electrodes 34 allowing coagulation of tissue. The second and third electrodes may be printed conductive patterns formed on the surface of an insulating annular body 13.</p> |
