The invention provides a method for manufacturing a uniquely identifiable cable. A marker system which may include a unique fingerprint is applied to the insulating layer of the cable as, or before, the cable is wound onto a drum or reel. The marker system may be applied by spraying, brushing, a marker wheel, passing the cable through a bath or by pads (see figs 1 to 4). The marker system is useful in preventing cable theft or in identifying stolen cables. |
