The device has an interface device which establishes data connections (4,5) of the configuration device and the components (1,2). An analysis unit automatically analyzes the data obtained from the interface device of the component, with respect to type and/or version of the component and provides the appropriate information. A tool configuration unit (6) determines the tool mounted on the component, and with which the component is changed from predetermined amount at tools based on the information of analysis unit. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) programming device; and (2) method for automatically determining tool for component of automated device.
