The method involves using a diagnostic table (50) for associating an event (23) to an aircraft equipment (3) e.g. autopilot unit. An interim rule is created and recorded for each unidentified group for associating events and phase of flight of the unidentified group with corresponding set using the diagnostic table. A list of maintenance activities (40) is drawn based on localization rules and/or provisional rules, and an operator is allowed to act technically on the aircraft equipment to carry out maintenance (P7). An independent claim is also included for an aircraft maintenance automated diagnosis system.
