The method involves listing events representing faulty operations in a collection list (22) associating events (23) and instants (25, 26) of the events during an inventory step (P1). The list is partitioned into a group (30) of events following a pre-defined temporal criterion during regrouping step (P2). The events are compared with events of location rules (61) during analysis step (P3). A provisional rule for non identified group is created and recorded by associating with events of non identified group with corresponding members by using a diagnostic table during identification step (P4). Each of the non identified groups is segmented into alternative group (33) during segmentation step (P5). A maintenance list (40) comprising an incriminated member cited in an elected location rule and/or a provisional rule updated at the identification and segmentation steps is established during a maintenance step. An operator is allowed to act technically on the incriminated member to carry out maintenance of aircraft. An independent claim is also included for a system for diagnosis of automated maintenance of aircraft based on collection list.
