Disclosed is a sliding window or door (10) which aims to prevent water leakage. The window or door has at least two panes (23, 24) which extend in a generally vertical plane and at least one of which is movable generally horizontally. A sill (11) including a channel (17) extends generally horizontally and within it bottom edge portions of each of the at least two panes are received. A dividing member (20) is located the channel which extends between the at least two panes. The dividing member extends either in contact with or in close facing relationship with the bottom edge portions of the at least two panes. A head (12) receives the top edge portions of each of the at least two panes in a manner similar to the sill, the head being formed of at least two parts which are snap fitted together.
