A valve has a body and a fluid passage therethrough. The fluid passage includes an inlet (404) , an outlet and a stagnation area (424) . The valve includes a control element within the fluid passage to control the flow of fluid through the passage and a vortex generating structure consisting of a central hub to which blades are fixed to direct a fluid within the fluid passage into the stagnation area (424) .
