Disclosed is a building panel (2) which aims to be lightweight and environmentally friendly when compared with panels made from Portland cement. The building panel includes a core (4) including first geopolymer concrete. One or more protective layers(6a, 6b) are located adjacent the core. Each protective layer includes second geopolymer concrete of greater density than the first geopolymer concrete.
