<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that reduces power to be consumed in printing by fixing the position of a carriage and a sheet with a method other than motor excitation and stopping supply of drive power to the motor. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a first motor for driving a main scanning part; a second motor for driving a sub-scanning part; and a drive control circuit for drive controlling the first motor and the second motor.
