PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: In a conventional solid state image pickup device, there has been known a circuit configuration in which a differential pair is formed from effective pixels and reference pixels, and amplification MOS transistors provided in each of the effective pixels and the reference pixels operate as MOS transistors at an input stage of the differential pair; however, such a conventional configuration has a problem that the accuracy of a signal output from the differential pair lowers when the reference pixel has some malfunction.

SOLUTION: The solid state image pickup device includes a configuration that selects at least one reference pixel outputting a reference signal from a plurality of reference pixels.
