<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having excellent color reproducibility at a wide viewing angle and preventing color shift to be observed even when obliquely observed upon displaying black. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device at least has: a liquid crystal cell where a pair of oppositely-arranged substrates at least one of which has an electrode and an electric field with a component parallel to the substrate having an electrode are formed; and a pair of polarizers. The liquid crystal cell includes first, second and third picture element regions and a color filter arranged on each picture element region. When color filters arranged on at least two picture element regions have a different Rth respectively, and dominant wavelengths with a maximum transmittance of color filters arranged on the first, second and third picture element regions are defined as λ<SB POS="POST">1</SB>, λ<SB POS="POST">2</SB>and λ<SB POS="POST">3</SB>(nm) respectively, λ<SB POS="POST">1</SB><λ<SB POS="POST">2</SB><λ<SB POS="POST">3</SB>holds and the retardation Rth(λ<SB POS="POST">1</SB>) in the thickness direction of the color filter at the wavelength of λ<SB POS="POST">1</SB>satisfies the following formula (I): -50nm≤Rth(λ<SB POS="POST">1</SB>)≤-30nm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
