<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pretreatment method for organic waste, such as garbage, for separating foreign matter by a press at a lower pressure without sorting the cores of vegetables rich in fiber to solids (foreign matter), and a method including a pretreatment process and for separating foreign matter from organic waste. <P>SOLUTION: The method for separating foreign matter from organic waste includes: a process (I) where slurry water-containing organic waste is obtained by culturing microorganisms, generating at least one enzyme selected from the group consisting of a cellulase, a protease, and an amylase, in water-containing organic waste for four hours or more at a temperature equal to or lower than their heat resistant temperatures; a process (II) where the obtained water-containing organic waste is put into a cylindrical container whose one end is closed and which is formed with discharge holes for the water-containing organic waste in the vicinity of the closed part; a process (III) where the water-containing organic waste is pressed from the open end of the cylindrical container to the closed part thereof; and a process (IV) where foreign matter remaining in the cylindrical container is removed.
