<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a supercharge-assist method for an internal combustion engine capable of efficiently controlling supercharge-assist by precisely determining the end timing of the supercharge-assist using compressed gas in an accumulated gas container, in the internal combustion engine using the gas stored in the accumulated gas container for the supercharge-assist, and to provide the internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: A supply amount We of gas C to be supplied into a cylinder is calculated by subtracting an in-passage accumulation amount Wm of the gas C accumulated in an intake manifold 11a and in an intake manifold-side passage from the intake manifold 11a to a flow path switching device 30, from a discharge amount Wt of the compressed gas C from an accumulated gas container 27.
