The system comprises two mutually connected washing containers for rinsing rods or rod pieces (3) made of polycrystalline silicon, and a third container for drying the rods or rod pieces. The washing containers comprise a receptacle for rods or rod pieces, and are switched as rinsing cascade. The receptacle includes two supporting bars (41, 42) on which the rods or rod pieces are placed. The third container comprises two supporting bars that are arranged offset relative to the supporting bars of the receptacle. Independent claims are included for: (1) a method for cleaning and drying rods or rod pieces made of polycrystalline silicon; (2) a method for preparing fragments of polycrystalline silicon; and (3) a method for processing polycrystalline silicon fragments.
