<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent "embedded characters" embedded in an image and OSD display created by an electronic apparatus from being displayed in such an overlapped manner on a screen. <P>SOLUTION: A position information acquisition part receives an image signal relating to an image, detects whether the image includes characters, and if the image includes characters, acquires information relating to the position of the characters in the image. An OSD display output part creates the OSD display to be displayed so as to overlap the image and outputs the OSD display. Using the acquired positional information of the characters, it is detected whether the characters and the OSD display overlap.
