The method involves measuring the reflection of ultrasonic signal coupled at the inner boundary surface (2) of a material of the cable (1), as measuring signals. The measuring signals are compared with the reference signal. The measuring signals are correlated with the reference signal during comparison process. The measuring signals are displaced relative to the reference signals with respect to common index positions. The dimension of displacement is determined by transit time measurement of measuring signals. An independent claim is included for a device for detecting detachments in inner boundary surface of cable material.
