摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption while making a network response available at a standby state in a communication interface. <P>SOLUTION: When a CPU receives from a PHY unit a notification indicative of no traffic during a second period shorter than a first period for detecting an LPI state in the case of a fast first link speed, the CPU resets the PHY unit and sets the link speed to a second link speed lower than the first link speed. On confirming the link-up of the PHY unit at the second link speed, the CPU sets the second link speed onto a MAC unit. Thereafter, on receiving from the PHY unit the information that there is no traffic during the first period, the MAC unit notifies the CPU and a power switch unit to that effect, to suspend a clock to a portion in which operation in the MAC unit is unnecessary at a standby state. The CPU suspends the clock to the portion in which operation is unnecessary at the standby state.
