Provided is a method, a path computation client, a path computation element and a system for establishing a multi-layer path. The method comprises the following steps: a path computation request message, which is used for requesting to compute a path from a source node to a destination node, is transmitted to the path computation element, wherein the source node and the destination node are located in a client layer network; a path computation reply message returned from the path computation element is received; the information of the path, from the source node to the destination node, through the client layer network and a service layer network is carried in the path computation reply message, and the transmission type supported by the service layer path in the service layer network is also carried in the path computation reply message; the path, which includes the service layer path, from the source node to the destination node is established according to the transmission type.
