FIELD: medicine.SUBSTANCE: method consists in making an incision of skin and subcutaneous fat along an anterior edge of sternocleidomastoid muscle from mandibular angle not touching a clavicle, separating a carotid artery from bifurcation and exposing the internal and external carotid arteries from bifurcation above an upper pole of a tumour, peeling chemodectoma off from the external carotid artery, mobilising chemodectoma, separating chemodectoma from the internal carotid artery and closing the wound. After chemodectoma is mobilised, the internal carotid artery is underrun by continuous sutures along the border with tumour tissue starting 1 cm below a lower pole of the tumour and finishing 1 cm above its upper pole. Chemodectoma is peeled off from a vascular wall at 2-3 mm from a suture line. If observing no vascular wall involvement, chemodectoma is separated from the carotid artery in a number of layers with preserving the integrity of the artery. Then the internal carotid artery below the suture start is provisionally ligatured; the sutures are removed, and is lumen is repaired. If chemodectoma appears to penetrate in the carotid wall deeply, chemodectoma is removed together with a strip of the vascular wall along the suture line at 2-3 mm therefrom.EFFECT: use of the given invention enables preserving the integrity of the internal and external carotid arteries, eliminating temporary blood flow termination in the internal carotid artery, avoiding potential intraoperative haemorrhage from the internal carotid artery1 ex |
