<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of memory accesses. <P>SOLUTION: A compression device 101 compresses an instruction string ISs. The compression device 101 performs compression when two instructions with continuous addresses have the same operation code and a continuity between operands. For example, between continuous instructions IS1 and IS2, both operation codes are ADD, and operands are increased by one. Accordingly, the instruction IS2 is compressed, and also the instruction IS3 is compressed. Compression is not performed between instructions IS3 and IS4, between instructions IS4 and IS5, and between instructions IS5 and IS6. The instruction IS6 is compressed in relation to the instruction IS4 by ignoring the instruction IS5. A compressed instruction group iss is a mixture of an instruction to be a restoration source and a compression instruction that can be restored by referring to an instruction of the restoration source.
