<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processing system which can improve the speed and smoothness of data processing that uses programs and parameters having a larger size than the storage capacity of a nonvolatile memory that can be mounted on a chip. <P>SOLUTION: Programs and parameters, which have a larger size than the storage capacity of a nonvolatile memory that can be mounted on a chip, are stored in a nonvolatile semiconductor memory device which is externally connected to a semiconductor data processing device. According to a determination result of information provided from an external source, the semiconductor data processing device downloads programs and parameters, which are internally required, from the nonvolatile semiconductor memory device, and rewrites the on-chip nonvolatile memory.
