<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the output characteristics of a lithium ion secondary battery comprising a separator which includes a heat-resistant layer containing a filler. <P>SOLUTION: A lithium ion secondary battery 100A comprises a positive electrode collector, a positive electrode active material layer 223 held on the positive electrode collector and containing a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode collector, a negative electrode active material layer 243 held on the negative electrode collector and containing a negative electrode active material, and separators 262A and 264A intervening between the positive electrode active material layer 223 and the negative electrode active material layer 243. The separators 262A and 264A each comprise a substrate composed of a resin, and a heat-resistant layer held on the substrate and containing a filler and a binder.
