<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of failures in a sealing step of caulking an opening of a battery can inward in a cylinder type battery in which a sealing body is fitted to the opening of the battery can via a gasket. <P>SOLUTION: In a cylinder type battery 1a, an opening of a bottomed cylindrical battery can 11 having a beading part 10 therearound is caulked inward, and a substantially disk-like sealing body 30 is fitted to the opening via a gasket 40c. The gasket is formed in a circular cap shape having a downward part as a bottom part 42 with the opening of the battery can upward, and a projection 47b getting thicker in a fixed vertical width w is peripherally formed at the upper end of an inside 44i of a side wall 44.
