The switch has a latching unit that holds a trigger shaft in latched state. The discharge of an electric capacitor is actuated with an actuator. An electronic tripping unit is arranged to evaluate the load current based on the predetermined triggering criterion, and to trigger the discharge of capacitor when the triggering criterion is satisfied. The conductor is connected with a transducer to supply power to capacitor and tripping unit by switching the switch portion. The capacitor is charged to a predetermined voltage to supply power to the remaining tripping unit. An independent claim is included for method for triggering switch.
