<p>The method involves moving a state memory i.e. capacitor circuit (23), to a predetermined state when an off-rail vehicle is switched off. A stored state of the memory is changed based on rotation of a wheel axle (10) by interaction of an axis encoder (12) with the memory during changing a position of the vehicle. The state of the memory is checked when the vehicle is switched-on, and a measure of a state change is determined. A position change of the vehicle is detected if the measure exceeds a predetermined threshold such that a safety-related action is induced in a rail system. The axis encoder is designed as an opto-electrical encoder or a magnetic encoder of a speedometer of a rail vehicle, and the state memory is designed as an electronic counter i.e. digital pulse counter, or a capacitor circuit. An independent claim is also included for a safety device for detecting a position change of a rail vehicle.</p> |
