A braking system for a passenger service vehicle comprising a plurality of axle sets, preferably three axle sets, 102, 104, 106. The braking system comprises a plurality of braking subsystems, each preferably with its own reservoir 112, 114, 116, 118. Each braking subsystem is configured to apply braking to a corresponding one of the plurality of axle sets. The braking subsystems operate together to provide a primary braking system yet are isolated from each other such that, in the event of a failure in one of the subsystems, the other braking subsystems are able to apply braking to their respective axle sets to provide a secondary braking system. The system may also comprise a parking brake subsystem 109, with its own reservoir 116, preferably braking the drive axle set of a three axle set passenger service vehicle. The invention has the advantage of separating the parking brake from the secondary brake to reduce the work of the compressor. |
