摘要 Disclosed is a thermal insulator 50 for insulating superconducting magnets, such as a cryogen vessel of a magnetic resonance imaging MRI system 20 having therein one or more superconducting magnets, the thermal insulator 50 comprising a first plurality of reflector layers (60, figure 4) and a non-deformed spacer layer (62, figure 4) between adjacent layers in the first plurality of reflector layers. The thermal insulator 50 further includes a second plurality of reflector layers (60, figure 4) and a deformed spacer (62, figure 4) layer between adjacent layers in the second plurality of reflector layers. The first plurality of reflector layers may define a warm end of a multi-layered insulation MLI blanket positioned distal to a helium vessel or thermal shield, the second plurality of reflector layers may define a cold end of a MLI blanket positioned proximate the helium vessel or thermal shield. The deformed spacer layer may be pleated, embossed, crinkled, or have a varied thickness. Also disclosed is a MRI system comprising the thermal insulator and a method of manufacture of the thermal insulator.
