A casein preparation is produced by adding to an ammoniacal solution of casein an ammoniacal solution of a compound of copper, nickel, cobalt, cadmium, tin, antimony, zinc, chromium or magnesium. No precipitate is produced, but an insoluble product remains when the water and ammonia are evaporated. In an example, casein is swelled with water and kneaded with an ammonia solution at 60 DEG C. until dissolved; the metal compound dissolved in ammonia is then added. A suitable solution may be prepared by precipitating a nickel sulphate solution with caustic soda and dissolving the washed precipitate in ammonia. The products are for use in the paint industry, for varnishes, agglomerates, waterproofing and adhesives. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes the use of ammoniacal solutions of compounds of barium and strontium. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:A casein preparation is produced by adding to an ammoniacal solution of casein an ammoniacal solution of a compound of copper, nickel, cobalt, cadmium, tin, antimony, zinc, chromium, or magnesium.
